Overview To Google
Carroll Catholic School is a Google school! We use Google classroom for assignments and to share the work that we are doing with one another. It is really very easy, and the students are becoming experts!
Google Classroom is accessible from any computer with Internet access. In Google Classroom, I can assign work to the students digitally, without paper. They can do it from school or home. They can submit it to me online, and I can send it back to them with comments, edits, suggestions, and/or grades.
The students know how to sign in: their email address is [first name][last name]@carrollcatholicschool.com and their password is [first name][last name]1
Students are allowed to change their password as long as I have a copy in case I need to access their account.
I am always amazed at how well students do on assignments using Google Classroom. It allows each child to work at his/her own pace so much more than trying to have everyone in the class doing roughly the same thing at the same time. I can make extra "bonus" assignments for those who need a bit more stimulation, and I can modify other assignments to try to meet the needs of each child. It also allows for a lot more direct and immediate feedback for the student, and for me to know a lot more about exactly what each child accomplished each day.
Google Classroom is best utilized by students and teachers with Chromebooks--basic, affordable, and transportable laptops. Carroll Catholic School currently has a portable cart with many Chromebooks accessible for students.
Google Classroom is used at Lincoln Community High School and by many other schools in Logan County. It is a way for students to be up on the latest trends in technology and education so they don't fall behind.
We have been using this in the classroom for a while so students are very familiar with how to log in to their Google. Any assignment that is not in the Google Classroom can be shared with me on an individual basis. In order to share assignments, students just send it to my email address: [email protected]
